|Spotlight on Rise of ASEAN, Mainland China and e-Tailing|
Hong Kong, Oct 29, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - More than 1,300 logistics and maritime services providers and users from some 29 countries and regions will take part in the third edition of the Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC), November 7th, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive CY Leung will open the conference, while Dr Patrick Low, former chief economist of the World Trade Organisation, will present the keynote address. In addition, some 40 logistics and maritime industry experts will speak at the day-long conference.
Major Industry Issues
Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Assistant Executive Director Raymond Yip said that this year's conference focus "responds to three major factors affecting the industry: the two new major markets of mainland China and ASEAN, new consumption modes and the prospects for shipping in 2014."
The first of the two conference plenary sessions will discuss how regional economic integration influences the development of the Asian logistics and maritime sectors.
Panel speakers are: Dr Chackrit Duangphastra, Director of the BBA International Programme at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok; Robert Li, Executive Director, Supply Chain for Asia Pacific, Lenovo Group; Barbara Meynert, Director of the Fung Global Institute; Ronald Widdows, Chairman of the World Shipping Council; George Yeo, Chairman of the Kerry Logistics Network; and Justin Zatouroff, Global Head of Logistics at KPMG.
Consumption and e-Tailing
The second plenary session will examine the impact of e-tailing and new consumption trends on the region's supply chain management.
Panel speakers are: Michele Ferrario, Managing Director, Zalora, South East Asia; Mark Millar, Chairman of the International Relations Committee, Hong Kong Logistics Association; Scott Price, President and CEO, Walmart Asia; Shi Tao, Vice President and General Manager, Global Business, JD.com Group; and Paul Teague, former president, NET-A-PORTER GROUP, Asia Pacific.
Air Freight, Food Supply and More
The afternoon will feature four concurrent forums: "The Sky's the Limit for Asian Air Freight," "Recipes for the Food Supply Chain," "Unlocking China's Potential," and "Keeping Faith: Seeing a Rebound in 2014?"
During the session on Unlocking China's Potential, a ceremony will be held to mark the 10th anniversary of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Logistics Cooperation and its achievements.

Business-matching services will be offered during the conference to help participants expand their business and exploit available opportunities. In addition, an exhibition will be held featuring more than 50 exhibitors showcasing their services. They will include shipping companies, container terminals, logistics services suppliers, e-logistics solution providers, port authorities, legal consulting firms and industry publications. A "Logistics and Maritime Week," which is supported by the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, will also take place around the conference, presenting a variety of international logistics and maritime conferences, exhibitions and networking activities.
The ALMC is organised by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the HKTDC in association with the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council and Hong Kong Port Development Council.
