Large European Presence at Singapore International Water Week: Europe Business Forum & European Pavilion

Singapore, June 10, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - With the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) Singapore participating as a supporting organization in the 2009 Singapore International Water Week, the Water Expo this year will showcase numerous exhibitors from Europe under a dedicated European Pavilion. Various European Companies, Embassies, Chambers of Commerce, and Foreign Investment Agencies will share business and investment opportunities with the visiting delegates. The European Pavilion will be the 2nd largest exhibition area after the Singapore Pavilion, and thus "demonstrate the strong willingness to further increase business connections between Europe and Singapore & Southeast Asia" mentioned Mrs. Jutta de Petrini, Executive Director of EuroCham.

With the Europe Business Forum on June 25 EuroCham is also co-hosting a major platform for captains of the European and Singaporean water industry to enable business networking, formation of partnerships and to explore on lucrative deal-making opportunities. Nine major company and industry leaders, among them Siemens, Veolia and HyFlux, and the 2009 Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize Winner Prof Gatze Lettinga from the Netherlands will share their views on the business potentials in Europe.

Said Ambassador Holger Standertskjold, Head of the EC Delegation to Singapore, "Increasingly, global phenomena like climate change will worsen the problems of water scarcity and droughts. Our economies and societies cannot survive and thrive without clean and drinkable water. Nevertheless, manage our water resources strategically by using new technologies. The EU Business community is working actively with researchers to this end. The Delegation of the European Commission is therefore delighted to support the European Business Forum and the European Pavilion during the Singapore International Water Week."

The large European participation in this year's Singapore International Water Week is testimony to the EU's continued commitment to Singapore and the region. As of this year the European Commission is co-funding a 3-year 'EU-Singapore Business-to-Business Cooperation Project' with more than 30 distinct business activities. EuroCham is in charge of conducting the project and aims to "notably enhance European-Singaporean business actions and promote Singapore as the central ASEAN Business Hub in Europe" said Mr. Stephan Preuss, the EuroCham Project Manager.

The European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) Singapore was established in 2001 with the mission to represent the common interests of the European Business Community in promoting bilateral trade, services and investments between Europe and Singapore and Asia-Pacific. EuroCham is a non-profit membership fee based organization with a membership composed of all European National Business Groups in Singapore as well direct corporate members. EuroCham is the European representative at the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) council.
