Kuala Lumpur, Apr 25, 2008 - (ACN Newswire) - The 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2008) has launched an online portal to facilitate business matchmaking between buyers and sellers attending the highly-anticipated forum on information and communications technology (ICT).
The first-ever business matching portal for WCIT is expected to generate some 2,000 structured business-to-business (B2B) meetings involving the event's 2,500 delegates from over 80 countries.
The portal was launched by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili in conjunction with an exchange of partnership agreements between WCIT 2008 and new Partners at a leading hotel here today.
"Today, we also focus on an important aspect of any successful ICT-related initiative - the facilitation of trade. It is the key building block that provides two-way interaction between buyers and sellers to match business needs," said the Minister.
WCIT 2008 Chairman Dato' Badlisham Ghazali said the web-based platform would provide a crucial link between demand and supply within ICT businesses in a structured manner, adding that this would be a great opportunity for partners, delegates and exhibitors to enhance their global presence.
The portal has been developed by NCL Solutions, a creative learning solutions provider and Strategic Partner of WCIT 2008.
"The portal is just one of several new elements we are introducing to add value to an already impactful event," said WCIT 2008 Chief Executive Officer Mr Dan E. Khoo, listing the others as the Great Debate, CIO-CEO Panels, Ministerial Panels and an auction of items of posterity from some of the global personalities attending WCIT 2008.
In the Great Debate, eminent speakers and experts in their respective fields will offer their views on a wide range of pressing ICT-related issues. The CIO-CEO (Chief Information Officer-Chief Executive Officer) Panels will bring vendors and buyers in one forum, while the Ministerial Panels are to discuss the role of ICT in driving economic and social growth.
Kuala Lumpur will be the first Southeast Asian city to host WCIT and is set to show the world Malaysia's potential as a global hub for ICT with a knowledge info- and infra-structure built around the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia).
