HKTDC and Visa Extend Trade Promotion Partnership for Third Year
Marketing and Payment Solutions continue to bring business opportunities to Hong Kong SMEs

HONG KONG, Feb 21, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Visa, a payments technology company, will again work together to bring 280,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Hong Kong integrated marketing services and efficient payment solutions.

Bringing Business Together

The partnership, which started in 2008, has already connected millions of international suppliers and buyers with Hong Kong-based SMEs. Companies are able to access the HKTDC's trade fairs, product magazines and online marketplace, along with Visa's one-stop Visa Commercial Directory (, and commercial solutions that help SMEs manage their cash flow more effectively.

"The HKTDC is the world's full-service trade organisation. We are pleased to continue to work with Visa to promote the international trade activities of SMEs," said Clare Wong, HKTDC Director of Publications and E-Commerce. "Visa's transaction solution is simple and hassle-free, allowing SMEs to capitalise on promising business opportunities."

The Visa Commercial Card is designed to help companies, large and small, increase efficiency and simplify financial management. In Hong Kong, Visa Commercial Cardholders are offered more than 100 benefits, including an up to 56-day pay-back period that provides a valuable financial cushion for many companies. Additional privileges include discounts for placing advertisements in selected HKTDC print and online promotions, as well as bonus points when paying for trade activities organised by the HKTDC.

Financial Flexibility

"Today's global market has become increasingly competitive. SMEs certainly need financial flexibility on their side so that they will not miss any opportunity," said Pradeep Roy, Head, Commercial Solutions, Visa International. "In partnering with the HKTDC, we are well-positioned to bring the benefits of our commercial solutions to more companies and help them grow through enhanced financial management."

Maxford Wine, a business covering wine trading, investment, education and consulting services, is among the companies that have benefited from working along with the HKTDC and Visa. In 2010, Maxford organised a business tour for Hong Kong-based wine traders to the vineyards and chateaux of leading wine producers in France's famed Bordeaux region.

"Investors are buying up to 2,000 bottles of wine even before the grapes are picked," said Maxford Director Maggy Chan. "As you can imagine, this requires a lot of money, but we had the Visa Commercial card on standby to provide extra funding."

"For many SME operators, efficient cash-flow management is always the key. The financial flexibility provided by Visa saves us time otherwise spent chasing money, allowing us to focus on sealing the deals," she said.
