Thirteenth Annual TELL Charity Walk and Runathon Unites the Tokyo Community in Support of Mental Health
Momentum continues as TELL lends support to National Children's Mental Health Week and Child Abuse Awareness Month

Tokyo, May 11, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - The Tokyo community came out in force for the Thirteenth Annual TELL Charity Walk and Runathon, held at the Imperial Palace on Saturday, May 5. This year's event drew 687 runners and walkers, backed by 69 volunteers and cheered on by countless spectators.

The TELL Charity Walk and Runathon is an annual fundraiser for Tokyo English Lifeline (TELL), a Tokyo-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and counseling services to Japan's international community and helping to address the country's growing mental health care needs. This year's event raised JPY 2,369,000 yen, which will enable TELL to continue offering free, anonymous telephone counseling through its Life Line service and professional face-to-face counseling via the organization's Counseling Center.

This year's Charity Walk and Runathon incorporated a 10-km run, 5-km run, and a 5-km walk, with prizes awarded to the fastest runners, who placed as follows.

TELL Chairman Tsuyoshi Akiyama said, "TELL relies on the support of sponsors and volunteers to execute large-scale events, and we'd like to thank all our partners and participants for their generosity with this year's Charity Walk and Runathon. I would encourage everyone who shares our commitment to promoting mental health to get involved in future TELL events, either as a sponsor or a volunteer."

TELL would like to express its appreciation to all participants, and to its generous sponsors, including Allied Pickfords, the American School in Japan, Coca Cola, Nak'd Whole Foods, Reebok and Toys "R" Us, Japan. The organization would like to offer special thanks to Goldman Sachs' Community Team Works and other event volunteers.

Thanks also go to those who donated prizes for the winning runners: Alishan Organic Center, Chez Vous, Delta, Elana Jade, Fuzzbox, Goldman Sachs, Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Grand Marnier, Lazard, Legato, Oakwood Residences, Raj Mahal, Sin Den, Synergy, Tableaux, Tokyo American Club, Tokyo International Players, Tomoe Collection, Wesley Foundation and Yoga Tree.

Building on the momentum of the Charity Walk and Runathon, TELL's Exceptional Parenting Program is participating in Speak Up for Kids, an annual public education campaign during National Children's Health Awareness Week (May 6-12, 2012).

Entitled "Is It Depression or Teen Angst?," TELL will host a talk on Friday, May 11, exploring the characteristics of adolescent depression. The talk provides information on treatment, as well as resources for finding help for your child or student.
