Minister of Housing and Local Government, Malaysia Presented at the 3rd Annual Affordable Housing Projects in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, July 4, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Marcus Evans presented the 3rd Annual Affordable Housing Projects on the 2nd 4th of July 2012 in Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Malaysia YB. Dato' Seri Chor Chee Minister from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Malaysia presented the keynote ministerial speech while Dato S.K. Devamany, Deputy Minister, Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia made the keynote ministerial presentation. The minister touched on enabling collaborative partnerships between all stakeholders to capitalise on the recent surge in affordable housing. Dato S.K. Devamany focused on meeting the needs of a growing population by matching demand and supply for affordable housing while promoting an efficient and sustainable housing industry.

This event examined the critical issues facing the housing industry, explored how the housing sector can grow in the context of an economic crisis and how to deliver more with less, thereby taking advantage of the unprecedented opportunities in this sector.

The three days agenda included a choice of three streams over the two days and the third day comprised of Interactive Think Tanks. The streams for the first two days of conference were Community Planning & Engagement, SmartBuild: Design, Materials & Technologies and Housing Finance.

Panel discussions on topics ranging from regulations across different countries, land acquisition issues, escalating costs, infrastructure development, greater public and private sector collaboration, etc. Hence the panels addressed the various challenges and arrived at a conclusion on how different countries can solve their issues based on what other countries are doing to address the same.

Currently in Asia, Middle East, Africa, there is huge demand for affordable housing. A lot of developers are developing low cost and affordable housing for the middle and lower income segments of the population. Governments across APAC, Middle East and Africa have taken up various initiatives for developing properties in low cost and affordable segment. They are also looking into the PPP model for development of such properties. Provision of affordable housing continues to be a challenge within emerging markets especially. Governments within the region are seeking exceptional development frameworks, strategies and legislation toward creating and sustaining affordable housing.
