Quality Investments Will Produce Quality Returns
Gina Sanchez, Director of Equity & Asset Allocation Strategy, Roubini Global Economics, a keynote speaker at the marcus evans UK Investors Summit 2012, shares her outlook on how UK investors can re-balance portfolios to limit risk.

London, Sept 26, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - In the next decade, asset allocation should be separated into five-year periods as each will have its own negative and positive returns, says Gina Sanchez, Director of Equity & Asset Allocation Strategy, Roubini Global Economics. Top-down macro filters are very important and influential for UK investments, she adds.

A keynote speaker at the marcus evans UK Investors Summit 2012 in London, UK,
8 - 9 October, Sanchez discusses how funds should be understood before the most appropriate investment for individual investors is selected.

- How can UK investors re-balance their portfolios according to risk?

UK investors should make sure that risks are very clearly identified and continuously monitored, while also understanding the complexities and limitations of current policies. Consumption is a risk specific to the UK economy, a result of government procedures. This risk becomes part of the portfolio, exposing assets to slowing consumption. Today policies are not only leading economies, but also defining the winners and losers. In order to become winners, investors must watch the tenor and tone of upcoming potential easing of policy. This will be a signal that risk is lessening.

- What strategies would you recommend for them?

During the upcoming decade, investments should be separated into two five-year periods when planning asset allocation. The first period will bring about negative returns for equities but bonds could stay flat. The second period could be negative for bonds and potentially positive for equities, depending on how the balance sheet repair process is conducted. An outlook should be kept on China and the effect it is having on commodities, as the continuing modernisation of emerging markets will create a natural demand for this asset.

In the total and absolute return areas, top-down macro filters are very important and influential. Strategies within the equity, credit and rate spaces that are based on top-down and bottom-up filters should also be considered.

- How can the most appropriate funds be selected?

Firstly, there must be an understanding about how many themes are being played in the fund, such as monetary policy easing, flowing growth, and inflation pressure. The specific macro context in which all funds will do well or not also needs to be studied. The next step is to ensure that duplicating multiple threats do not run through multiple funds.

- What other advice would you give to UK investors?

Attention should be paid to the quality of investments made, as only the best quality companies will survive and have stellar results. The challenge in this new age of investing is to overcome the difficulty of seeking out yields at a reasonable risk. Investors should always look for a window of opportunity to deal with these difficulties.
