ETC Announces Award of Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA) Simulator Upgrade Contract

Southampton, PA, USA, Dec 11, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has commissioned Environmental Tectonics Corporation (ETC) ( www.etcusa.com ) to upgrade and modernize vital flight simulation equipment.

ETC will upgrade the software and critical components of a device known as the Gyro IPT II ( www.etcaircrewtraining.com/general-aviation/situational-awareness-ipt2 ). Built by ETC and managed by the FAA's main facility in Oklahoma City, Okla., this equipment plays a key role in the agency's aircrew and pilot training programs.

The overhaul will expand the FAA's ability to perform basic flight training maneuvers. The refurbished trainer will be able to simulate over 22 spatial disorientation flight profiles, record flight data for individual pilots and support cutting-edge research, among other functions.

ETC's International Logistics Support (ILS) division ( www.simulatorsupport.com ) will lead the project. ILS Director David Hales said, "We highly value our professional relationship with the FAA and are honored to continue to be a partner in making manned flight safer through the use of our simulation systems."

ETC will retrofit the unit at its headquarters in Southampton, Pa. The device will undergo extensive factory validation before moving to an FAA facility housing other ETC training devices. Delivery is expected next year.

In addition, ETC has a standard maintenance contract for its devices at the FAA's main facility in Oklahoma City.
