MTA2013 will Address the Needs of Singapore's Medical Technology Sector with High Precision Engineering Solutions
High quality, value-added services and solutions with specialised zone in Capabilities Hub

SINGAPORE, Feb 8, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - Singapore is increasingly being recognised as a centre for medical technology innovation. With internationally renowned medical technology companies setting up bases and manufacturing facilities here, dedicated infrastructure such as the Medtech Hub, Biopolis and Tuas Biomedical Park, as well as support from the electronics and precision engineering industry, the medical technology (medtech) sector has grown tremendously over the years.

Singapore manufactures a range of medical products, from syringes to research instruments to scientific analytical equipment. Currently, it is a global leader in medtech manufacturing, catering for 40 per cent of international demand for mass spectrometry instruments, over 70 per cent of the globe's microarray and half of worldwide supply of thermal cyclers*.

Attuned to the latest developments and trends, MTA2013, the pioneer precision engineering industry trade event in Asia, will be showcasing services, solutions and products for the medtech sector at the Singapore Expo from 9 - 12 April 2013. MTA2013 will also unveil a Capabilities Hub - to meet the needs of local and international companies serving this sector.

MTA2013 zooms in on solutions for high value sectors

The Capabilities Hub will feature a group of precision engineering enterprises that provides a comprehensive range of products and services catering to high value sectors such as Aerospace, Complex Equipment, Medical Technology and Oil & Gas.

Highly regarded for their high levels of competency, quality control systems, fast response and turnaround and excellent after-sales support, these companies include A&One Precision Engineering, ACP Metal Finishing, Advance Tech Automation, Alcotec Precision Engineering, Beyonics Technology, CEI Contract Manufacturing, Chinyee Engineering & Machinery, Frontken (Singapore), Fujicon Engineering, Hup Fatt Brothers Engineering, Index Precision Industries, JCS-Vanetec, JEP Precision Engineering, Meiban Group, Microcast, Nanotechnology Manufacturing, Onn Wah Precision Machining, Racer Technology, Solidmicron Technologies, ST Kinetics Integrated Engineering, Trek 2000 International, Tru-Marine, Vigor Precision Engineering and Wah Son Engineering.

In conjunction with MTA2013, the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) will be organising the Precision Engineering Centre of Innovation (PE COI) Annual Conference 2013 on 11 April, and also exhibiting at the event from 9 - 11 April. Visitors will not only get to witness a centrepiece booth by SIMTech, they will also have the opportunity to network and interact with industry and business thought leaders at the PE COI Annual Conference.

A research institute of A*STAR, SIMTech develops high value manufacturing technology and human capital to contribute to the competitiveness of the Singapore industry. The research institute collaborates with multinational and local companies in the precision engineering, electronics, semiconductor, medtech, aerospace, automotive, marine and offshore, logistics and other sectors.

Meiban Group is an innovative Singapore company with capabilities ranging from design and development to full turnkey box build manufacturing. Established in 1987, Meiban was one of Forbes Magazine's "Best Under Billion" companies in 2004 and 2005. Its focus on research and development, and design has resulted in several awards such as the Red Dot Design Award (2006-2010) and International Forum Design Award for Personal Navigation System (2007) - international awards conferred to companies with the most innovative designs or concepts.

ISO13485 certified in quality management system, Meiban is well-placed to provide medical manufacturing and the company has a class 10K cleanroom with microbial control manufacturing facilities. Meiban's commitment to technological innovation is demonstrated by its Innovative Manufacturing Technology (IMT) programme.

"With increasing focus on quality healthcare in Singapore and the region, we expect the medical technology sector to experience dynamic growth in the near future. Meiban is committed to provide product and service excellence by leveraging on our people and innovative spirit, to meet increasing demand for relevant technologies, products and support services," enthuses Ms Carol Goh, Executive Vice President at Meiban Group Pte Ltd.

The ability to create new solutions and a dedication to service, quality and technology, has made Racer Technology one of Singapore's leading medical manufacturers. Committed to using engineering and technology to improve the quality of life, the company undertakes a disciplined approach to systems engineering, programmatic risk management and detailed design. Strategically located throughout Asia, Racer Technology offers a full service medtech production capability, from prototyping to mechanical design, molding to assembling medical devices.

With Class 8 cleanroom molding and assembly capabilities, Racer Technology has practicing process validation capabilities such as design qualification (DQ), installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ). The company's attention to detail is evident through its adoption of Six Sigma Lean Management.

Mr. Kenny Lee, Business Development Director of Racer Technology says, "At Racer Technology, we strive to touch the lives of people through our commitment to excellent quality and affordability in our production of medical devices and specialised surgical tools. Serving the medical sector is our top priority. Our expertise in providing a full suite of solutions and services for the medical technology industry enables us to respond quickly and meet the stringent manufacturing requirements and needs of our clients."

The Capabilities Hub is designed to address the demanding and varied needs of the high-value industry sectors. For the medical technology sector in particular, it highlights the manufacturers capabilities that covers areas such as concept development, design, prototype creation through to mould making and manufacturing of medical grade equipment.

"By allowing the manufacturers to showcase their know-how through the Capabilities Hub, MTA2013 provides the ideal platform for attendees from around the region to see and gain the knowledge in what the precision engineering industry in Singapore can provide. The medical device sector is a highly regulated one, given that patient safety is at risk, therefore complying with strict production standards is an absolute must," states Mr. William Lim, Project Director at Singapore Exhibition Services, organiser of MTA2013.

MTA2013 Choice Asian launch pad for global manufacturing players

Beyond the Capabilities Hub, MTA2013 will also unveil global manufacturing bigwigs who will be demonstrating their latest portfolio of machine tools and tooling systems targeted at the medtech sector.

Makino will showcase the U3 - Wire EDM, with new "3micro-mRz / 3 pass" technology that cuts faster, thus improving productivity. Under standard machining conditions, the U3 is able to deliver a surface finish of 3μmRz (Ra0.4μm) with just 3 pass machining; applicable to precision metal tooling especially stamping die applications. A reduction in the number of passes results in a shorter machining time, and lowers the cost of consumables as less wire is utilized in the machining process.

Munger Machine Tool will be displaying the Tornos Swiss ST26 a Single Spindle Automatic Lathe with Sliding Headstock, which is equipped with up to 36 tools, including 20 driven tools. The modular concept enables optimal distribution of rotating tools on the machine's tool systems. The Swiss ST26 is available with a complete range of devices and can also be equipped with various peripheral devices.
