Eyewear Design Winners Announced at Press Conference |
HONG KONG, Oct 31, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - Winners of the 15th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition were announced today at a press conference. The winners and finalists' pieces will be displayed at the HKTDC Hong Kong Optical Fair, which opens next Wednesday. The three-day fair, 6-8 November, will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Design on Display
The theme of this year's eyewear competition was "Craft of Paradise." The Open Group Champion was Ho Ming Hong of Optical 88 Ltd. His "Flower Secret" eyewear incorporates two cream perfume containers hidden under hummingbird motifs. Wearers need only lift the hummingbirds to enjoy their favourite fragrance. The design also took the Creativity Award and the Made-to-Sell Award.
Student Group Champion Cheung Sui Cheung, from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee), won for his "Prime" sunglasses. The black-and-silver sunglasses incorporate sturdy, metallic frames, yet can be folded down to the size of a floppy disk. Winners and finalists of the Eyewear Design Competition will be on display at the Wine Cellar, Hall 1B, throughout the fair.
About 700 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions, a record high, will take part in this year's Optical Fair. Israel, Macau, New Zealand and Thailand are first-time exhibitors at the fair, which will feature eight group pavilions: the Chinese mainland, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Visionaries of Styles and the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA). The fair is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the HKOMA.
3D Eyewear and More
Fair highlights include three new dedicated product areas - 3D & Kids Eyewear, Reading Glasses and the Small-Order Zone. Brand Name Gallery this year will welcome 178 designer brands from 22 countries and regions, including such major companies as BMW, Converse, DITA, Fitovers, Hummer, ic! berlin, Jaguar, Morgan De Toi and Paris Hilton.
Other zones will include Eyewear Accessories, showcasing cases, cords and accessories; Eyewear, Frames & Lens; and Sporting & Professional Eyewear.
Optometry Care
This year's fair presents a wide variety of opportunities for gathering industry intelligence and updates. They include the 11th Hong Kong Optometric Conference, 7-8 November, which will examine advanced optometry care.
Eyewear and Fashion
Fair seminars on offer will include sessions on eyewear and fashion, strategies for entering the Chinese mainland's optical retail market, and the global retail outlook for optical products. Four eyewear parades will be held at Brand Name Gallery, three of them on opening day.
Buying Missions
Some 68 missions from 2,505 companies, representing about 3,500 buyers from 46 countries and regions, will participate in the fair.
Eyewear Exports
In the first nine months of this year, Hong Kong exported HK$11.1 billion (US$1.4 billion), up marginally over the same period last year. Its top export markets for optical goods are the United States, the Chinese mainland, Italy, Australia and France.
