JETCO selects Gemalto TSM for mobile NFC rollout in Hong Kong and Macau
Joint Electronic Teller Services Limited to securely deploy NFC payment services to end users through their 30 member banks

AMSTERDAM, Feb 13, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653), the world leader in digital security, announces that it will be providing its LinqUs Trusted Service Management (TSM) software platform to Joint Electronic Teller Services Limited (JETCO) for their commercial rollout of NFC payment. JETCO has the biggest automatic teller machine (ATM) network in Hong Kong and Macau consisting of over 30 member banks. Gemalto is also supporting JETCO with consulting services on the platform setup as well as integration.

The solution enables JETCO to securely distribute and manage mobile payment services to their end users. The TSM platform complies with state-of-the-art international interoperability standards such as Global Platform and offers JETCO the flexibility to interact with secure elements in various form factors.

The rollout will enable end users to use their mobile phone to transact at participating merchants equipped with NFC-ready point-of-sales (POS) at more than 10,000 acceptance points including globally renowned supermarket chains, convenience stores, fast food chains, cinemas and more.

"Gemalto's strong track record of NFC deployments in Asia leads to an in-depth understanding of both the telecommunications and banking sectors, giving JETCO's banks a strong competitive edge in mobile contactless payments," said Mr. John Tsang, Deputy General Manager, JETCO. "A great advantage of the Gemalto TSM's flexible nature is that it will allow our member banks to leverage multiple payment standards."

"The TSM will allow JETCO to play the role of trusted third party for NFC deployment and collaborate with all of Hong-Kong's mobile operators in a secure manner," said Suzanne Tong-Li, President of Greater China and Korea at Gemalto. "Contactless usage was first introduced in Hong Kong in 1997, then one of the first implementation in the world, and its acceptance has steadily increased since then. Now the technology has established steadfast popularity, setting the ground for advanced NFC services adoption."
