Entertainment Expo Hong Kong: Turning 10 with Nine Events on Offer
Asia's top Entertainment Industry Gathering Opens 24 March

HONG KONG, Feb 17, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Highlights of this year's Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, the 10th edition, were revealed today at a press conference. The multimedia event opens 24 March and continues to 13 April at various venues in Hong Kong.

Public Welcome

"Hong Kong is the perfect hub for film and television entertainment, given its international financing, global distribution network and intellectual property protection," said Entertainment Ambassador Leon Lai, speaking at the press conference. "Entertainment Expo Hong Kong is a grand annual event, with many sessions open to the public, and we welcome their participation." Also taking part in the press conference were: Hong Kong SAR Government Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So; Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Executive Director Fred Lam; and HKTDC Entertainment Industry Advisory Committee Chairman Peter Lam.

This year's Entertainment Expo will feature nine multimedia events: the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART); the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF); the Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony (HKFA); the Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF); the Hong Kong Asian Pop Music Festival (HKAMF); the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Award; ifva; the Asian VFX and Digital Cinema Summit; and the Digital Entertainment Forum.

Bringing it All Together

"Over the past 10 years, Entertainment Expo has brought together a wide range of industry activities: a trade exhibition, film financing, forums and entertainment activities open to the public, including film and music festivals, as well as presentation ceremonies that recognise outstanding achievement," said HKTDC Assistant Executive Director Raymond Yip. "Without the expo, these activities would be scattered through the different months of the year, with no clear focus. More than 1.35 million people have attended Entertainment Expo over the past 10 years."

This year, about 760 companies from nearly 30 countries will participate in FILMART, 24-27 March, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Major exhibitors will include: UNIFRANCE and Ile de France, Film Export UK, the Independent Film & Television Alliance of America, and KOFIC and KOCCA from Korea. Japan's JETRO, Screen Authority Sapporo and Okinawa Film Office have expanded their pavilion size. Brunei and South Africa, as well as the Chinese mainland's Shandong, Sichuan and Guangdong provinces, are first-time exhibitors. FILMART's TV World, which turns eight, is expected to welcome more than 260 exhibitors. The theme of TV World's International Forum this year is "TV's New Century: Asia's Live Programmes." A series of workshops will also be held, focusing on issues ranging from the Internet and business opportunities to forecasting film and TV content. FILMART will once again present the Intellectual Property Business zone, as well as zones spotlighting location shooting and micro-film, the latter offering award-winning movies.

Financing Film

Among the region's major film-financing events, this year's HAF will be held 24-26 March. Nearly 30 film projects from 11 countries and regions have been selected, attracting film investors, producers and distributors from all over the world. Projects chosen include Game, a thriller from Hong Kong comedian Lam Tze-chung, and Angel Whispers, the directorial debut of actress Carrie Ng, who won Best Actress at the 30th Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.

Showcasing Film

Details of this year's HKIFF, 24 March to April 7, will be announced on 27 February. At the 33rd HKFA, 13 April, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, 19 awards will be presented in recognition of outstanding achievement in the local film industry. Independent film and visual media in Hong Kong and throughout Asia will be on show at the 19th edition of ifva, 13-23 March. An ifva highlight this year will be the "Storytelling Series," with eight stories selected by screenwriter and critic Kee-to Lam, including Pang Ho-cheung's "Summer Exercise" and Mak Hei-yan's "Lovers' Lover."

Making Music

The fourth HKAMF, 28 March at the HKCEC, will feature seven up-and-coming Asian performers. The singers, from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore, will compete in the Super Nova Award. Asian music industry business forums will also be held. The 12th IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Award, 1 March, will be broadcast to Chinese communities around the world through local television, radio and the Internet. The awards recognise the achievements of singers, creators and record companies over the past year.

At the seventh Asian VFX and Digital Cinema Summit, 25 March, industry experts will discuss digital post-production trends. Recent 3D movies will also be shown to introduce production techniques. The fourth Digital Entertainment Forum, 26 March, will examine visual media, from full-pixel, real-time motion capture to interactive design and other new production technology.

Rewarding Promotions

A city-wide promotion, "Enjoy Great Movies, Enjoy Special Offers," will once again take place in support of Entertainment Expo. The campaign will offer the public a 10 per cent discount at any of more than 40 cinemas in Hong Kong by presenting a receipt from one of the participating merchants during the promotion period, 24 March to 13 April. Individuals can also enjoy special offers at participating retail outlets by presenting a cinema stub. Over 100 retailers will participate, including: Hong Thai Travel Services Ltd, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Harbour Cruise Bauhinia, 759STORE, HKTDC Design Gallery, Sky 100 Hong Kong Observation Deck and CookedDeli by City Super. Details will be available on the Expo website, www.eexpohk.com, in early March.

New this year, "Entertainment Expo Hong Kong Double Rewards" begins today and continues through 21 February, offering 10 movie vouchers daily via the HKTDC's Facebook page. Details, in Cantonese only, are available on: https://www.facebook.com/hktdc.hk
