Two HKTDC Jewellery Shows to Open in Early March
Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition Winners Announced

HONG KONG, Feb 18, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - A new jewellery show joins one of Asia's most popular jewellery fairs in a move that has exhibitors and buyers alike responding with enthusiasm.

Next month, the inaugural HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, 3-7 March, at AsiaWorld-Expo, will be held alongside the 31st edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, taking place 5-9 March, at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

More Space, More Exhibitors

Adding the new fair with the longstanding Jewellery Show requires a great deal more space and resources. More than 7,500 workers are involved in the construction of the two fairs. Together, they are expected to attract more than 3,800 exhibitors from 51 countries and regions. Last year, some 3,340 exhibitors took part in the Jewellery Show.

Diamonds, Gems and Pearls

The Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show will welcome 15 group pavilions; five trade organisation pavilions will also participate: the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, the International Colored Gemstone Association, the Israel Diamond Institute, the Japan Pearl Exporters' Association and the New York Diamond Dealers Club.

The new show will feature two product zones: the Hall of Fine Diamonds, showcasing carat-size diamonds, and Treasures of Nature, offering precious stones, South Sea pearls and Tahiti pearls.

Ruby Wednesday

Seminars on offer at the show will range from market developments in Southeast Asia and the Americas (3 March) to pearl trends (4 March), spotlights on rubies, as well as coloured gemstones (5 March) and diamond identification (6 March).

International Sparkle

The Jewellery Show will welcome more than 2,300 exhibitors from 41 countries and regions, including 16 group pavilions, four of which are new to the fair: Indonesia, Peru, South Africa and the United Kingdom. In addition, four trade organisation pavilions will take part: the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute, the Japan Jewellery Association, the Platinum Guild International, and T-Gold International.

Fame to Glamour

Fair highlights will include seven product zones: Hall of Fame, showcasing international brands; Hall of Extraordinary, presenting prestigious jewellery; World of Glamour, offering fine jewellery from Hong Kong-based exhibitors; the Antique & Vintage Jewellery Galleria, featuring vintage jewellery; Designer Galleria, spotlighting hip collections; Hall of Jade Jewellery, showing jade pieces in a variety of colours; and the Hall of Time, focusing on brand watches and clocks.

Products on Parade

Together, the two fairs will organise more than 30 events, including the Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition award presentation (5 March), daily product parades and a variety of seminars and networking receptions.

Design Competition

Nearly 350 entries were received for the 15th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition, with Fung Yin Ling, Tse Ka Wing and Luk Tony Teng winning Best of Show Awards in the Open Group. Ms Fung also took the Craftsmanship & Technology Award.

In the Student Group, Ho Mi Yee, from the Hong Kong Management Association, was named Champion. First Runner-up was Ho Mi Yee, also from the Hong Kong Management Association. Second Runner-up was Wong Wan Teng, from the School of Continuing Education at Hong Kong Baptist University.

The Jewellery Design Competition's winning and finalist pieces will be on show throughout the fair in the Display Area, Hall 1E Concourse, along with those from the Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition.

Exports Shine

Exports of fine jewellery from Hong Kong totalled US$7.2 billion last year, up 6.5 per cent, year-on-year.
