KSID creates national trust center in South Korea with Valimo Mobile ID solution

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain, Feb 24, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Valimo, world leader in mobile identity authentication and digital signature software, is supplying its advanced Mobile ID solution to KSID, the trusted certification body for mobile authentication and digital signatures in South Korea. The SIM-based embedded software solution and related back-end server provide interoperability across all of the country's mobile networks and all types of handsets, to offer South Korean citizens the convenience of secure digital services such as eBanking and eGovernment direct from their mobile phones.

Valimo's comprehensive solution for KSID will employ public key cryptographic (PKI) mechanisms stored safely in the SIM card to provide outstanding levels of assurance. This very high level of assurance also encompasses the embedded application. Already field proven in several countries, the Valimo PKI solution will enable South Korea's banks, operators and government bodies to deploy robust Mobile ID services quickly and cost-effectively.

Currently, 70% of the population in South Korea use software certificates when conducting banking transactions via personal computers. With the support of a national trusted center for Mobile ID, service providers and certification bodies can harness the enthusiasm of South Korea's tech-savvy population for using the 24/7 online domain, and meet the fast-growing demand for everybody, everywhere, anytime access to secure services on the mobile phone.

"By extending the benefits of strong authentication and digital signatures into mobile devices that play such a key role in modern lifestyles, KSID will develop the range and reach of secure online services in South Korea," said Kim Dong Su, CEO of KSID.

"With a 33% penetration of mobile banking in South Korea, the country is perfectly poised for KSID's compelling Mobile ID proposition," said Tomi Soininen, managing director of Valimo. "The initial Mobile ID deployment will target eBanking, then Valimo will support KSID in addressing the specific requirements for strong user authentication of other markets, eLearning and universities in particular."
