HONG KONG, June 18, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The quadrennial World Cup ("World Cup") has finally kicked off on 12 June 2014 in Brazil! The wireless solutions installed at the World Cup stadiums by Comba Telecom Systems Holdings Limited ("Comba Telecom" or "the Group," Hong Kong stock code: 2342), a leading global wireless solutions provider, have also commenced operation.
Comba Telecom have supplied the 2G/3G/4G LTE, iDEN and WiFi turnkey wireless solutions at eight out of twelve stadiums hosting matches, including the Arena de Sao Paulo in Brazil, the site of the World Cup opening ceremony. During the 31 days of the matches, more than 2 million football aficionados from all over the world are expected to come and watch in person. They can experience the mobile services including voice, image and data transmission provided by the mobile operators utilising the wireless equipment supplied by Comba Telecom.
According to statistics, during the World Cup opening ceremony, more than 135,000 cellular connections and 1 million MB of data transmission were recorded at Arena de Sao Paulo, including emails, images and multimedia messages, a data usage of 0.55MB per capita. During the peak hours of mobile traffic between 1pm to 8pm local time, 857,000 MB of data was transmitted through the 3G networks and the audiences enjoyed uninterrupted internet access provided by mobile network operators at the stadium during the matches. The 4G signal reception was exceptional as well. During the same peak hours, around 285,000 MB of data was transmitted through the 4G LTE networks, 26% of the total data traffic.
At the beginning of 2013, Comba Telecom successfully provided turnkey wireless solutions for four stadiums that hosted the 2013 Confederations Cup. During that tournament, an audience of more than 760,000 accessed the mobile networks, including 1.7 million cellular connections and 4.6 million MB of data transmission, an average data usage of 0.5MB per capita. Some 14% of the total data traffic was transmitted through the 4G LTE networks. With high appreciation of the outstanding performance of the wireless solutions and solid on-site support from both local mobile network operators and the Confederations Cup organiser, Comba Telecom was therefore asked to provide turnkey wireless solutions for four more stadiums at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Brazil World Cup is more than football matches. It is also a competition for the "World Cup" brand.
