Black & Veatch Leaders to Share Knowledge, Expertise at Singapore International Water Week

SINGAPORE, June 10, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today that Len C. Rodman, Chairman, President and CEO, will be one of three keynote speakers at the "Sustainable Water Solutions for Cities" plenary forum at the Water Leaders Summit, part of the second annual Singapore International Water Week. Other senior Black & Veatch leaders will also share their knowledge of the global water and wastewater industry at this year's conference, to be held 22-26 June at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Rodman, who also serves as a member of Singapore's Environmental and Water Technologies International Advisory Panel, is the only keynote speaker from a private company to be asked to speak at the 23 June plenary forum. "As founding sponsors of the event, we will again share knowledge, ideas and best practices with leading water and wastewater experts," Rodman said. "This global platform brings together the 'who's who' of the industry to work collaboratively on some of the world's most pressing sustainability challenges."

Dan McCarthy, President and CEO of Black & Veatch's global water business, will also participate in conference. He will chair the Australia Business Forum on 25 June, which will focus on the regions current water challenges, major water and used water infrastructure projects and the latest methods for capital works and maintenance. McCarthy, who serves on the nomination committee for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, a prestigious international award to recognise outstanding contributions in solving global water issues, also is scheduled to participate in the forum's CEO panel.

"We will address industry challenges, showcase technologies, discover new opportunities and celebrate achievements at this world-class conference," McCarthy said. "Advanced technology solutions are becoming increasingly important to the water and wastewater industry, so many of our experts and Global Practice & Technology Leaders have been asked to present case studies from around the world as examples of success stories."

In addition to Rodman and McCarthy, Black & Veatch leaders who are scheduled to present include Dr Terry Johnson, Jonathan Clement, Cindy Wallis-Lage, Gerry O'Toole, Kelvin Lau, Peter Binney and Dr Les Lampe. The seven technical sessions that Black & Veatch professionals will present include the following titles:

- Barriers and Obstacles to the Development of Improved Technology for Water
- Engineering Cost-Effective & Energy-Efficient MBR Systems
- Sewer Upgrading in Highly Urbanised Cities: Case of Hong Kong
- Applications of Renewable Energy for Water Operations
- A Framework for Developing Sustainable Water Utilities in the Coming Decades
- State of Practice: Biosolids Energy and Resource Recovery
- Smart Design for the 50 mgd Changi NEWater Plant A 25-year DBOO Concession

Black & Veatch professionals will also present three poster sessions, which will feature the following.
- Benchmarking Sustainability Practices of Global Water Utilities
- Applications of Computational Modelling in the Design and Optimisation of Water Infrastructure
- Singapore's Jurong WRP Membrane Bioreactor Facility Industrial and Retrofit Challenges

Additionally, conference participants will have the opportunity to tour plant sites in which Black & Veatch has played a major consultancy role, including the Marina Barrage, Singspring Desalination Plant and Chestnut Avenue Waterworks.
Events taking place during Singapore International Water Week include the Water Leaders Summit, Water Convention, Water Expo and Business Forums, culminating in the presentation of the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize.

Clement and Dr Lampe, both Black & Veatch Global Practice and Technology Leaders, served on the Water Convention Program Committee. The Water Convention will be held in conjunction with the International Water Association's 6th Leading-Edge Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies (LET). Clement is the co-chair of the LET Conference and will be giving the keynote for the technology track of the water convention as he is the technology track leader.
