Fujitsu Enhances Performance of Fujitsu M10 SPARC Servers Available Worldwide from Oracle and Fujitsu
Fujitsu M10 entry-level and mid-range systems deliver approximately 30 percent performance improvement, boost database response

TOKYO, Apr 7, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu announced today that the space-saving Fujitsu M10-1 as well as the compact Fujitsu M10-4 mid-range servers are now available worldwide in additional configurations featuring the new 3.7GHz SPARC64 X+ 8 core processors providing approximately 30 percent performance improvements(1). When coupled with the Fujitsu M10 servers' industry-leading compute capability, the enhanced servers can cut batch processing times for business data and tackle a broad range of Big Data analyses - from such sources as SNS, sensors and mobile devices - to accelerate decision making and increase business productivity.

The Fujitsu M10 server family(2) running Oracle Solaris provides performance and flexible capacity to meet the growing needs of organizations across all industries. The new Fujitsu M10-1 and M10-4 models offer the same higher per core performance of the high-end Fujitsu M10-4S server. The compact 1U Fujitsu M10-1 and the powerful workhorse Fujitsu M10-4 servers are now offered in three processor speeds, allowing organizations to get more from their IT investments. Fujitsu M10, with Oracle Solaris and the highly scalable Oracle Database 12c, is well-suited for mission-critical applications.

Since the worldwide release of Fujitsu M10 UNIX server in 2013, the Fujitsu and Oracle SPARC collaboration has led many customers to trust their organizations IT infrastructure needs to Fujitsu M10 servers. Customers across a wide range of industries are enjoying the benefits of deploying mission-critical applications on Fujitsu M10. The enhanced Fujitsu M10 server models announced today provide customers with more options to optimize their IT investments.

"The new Fujitsu M10 entry-level and mid-range server models strengthen the overall Fujitsu M10 portfolio's ability to meet customers' needs and improve return on their investments," said Akira Kabemoto, Senior Executive Vice President, Fujitsu Limited. "Fujitsu M10 features Software on Chip (SWoC)(3) together with Oracle's technologies, including Oracle Solaris 11.2 with OpenStack and Oracle Database In-Memory, provides mission-critical enterprise solutions for Cloud and Big Data in today's modern enterprises."

"The new Fujitsu M10 servers offer enhanced options for customers seeking mission-critical computing solutions for cloud or data center deployments," said Oracle Chief Corporate Architect Edward Screven. "This is the latest of many advances that have resulted from the strong, ongoing collaboration between Oracle and Fujitsu and demonstrates our commitment to providing the best technology solutions to help customers accelerate their businesses."

(1) Approximately 30 percent performance improvements

The comparison is made by per core performance.
The per core performance is calculated by dividing measured per socket values by the number of cores per socket.
38.4 per core = divided by 8 cores, where 307 is measured with the following conditions.
- Fujitsu M10-server with SPARC64 X+ (3.7GHz, 8 core) processor
- Oracle Solaris 11.2 SRU6.4
- Version 12.4 of Oracle Solaris Studio
29.3 per core = 468 divided by 16 cores, where 468 is measured with the following conditions.
- Fujitsu M10-1 server with SPARC64 X+ (3.2GHz, 16 core) processor
- Oracle Solaris 11.1 SRU15.4
- Version 12.3 of Oracle Solaris Studio 10/13 Patch Set
Details and the latest information on this benchmark will be published on the SPEC webpages at http://www.spec.org. New models benchmark results have been submitted to SPEC.

(2) The Fujitsu M10 server family

Fujitsu M10 SPARC servers are flexible and scalable systems that deliver high performance and mission-critical reliability for enterprise-class workloads. These high-performance servers are based on Fujitsu SPARC64 X+/X processors and run Oracle Solaris. Fujitsu M10 servers are available as space saving single-socket 1U entry-level Fujitsu M10-1, compact 4-socket 4U M10-4 as well as scalable M10-4S models. Fujitsu M10 servers feature key technologies such as CPU core activation and building block architecture to lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Fujitsu M10 servers are sold as SPARC M10 by Fujitsu in Japan. Fujitsu M10 and SPARC M10 are identical products.

Fujitsu is a Diamond level member of Oracle Partner Network (OPN).

(3) Software on Chip (SWoC)

"Software on Chip" is a set of innovative Fujitsu M10 technologies that provide faster results by taking processes e.g. decimal arithmetic processing, high performance computing arithmetic computational extension and cryptographic processing, previously handled by software and implementing them in the processor hardware.
