DOCOMO Joins FIDO Alliance Board of Directors
Will deploy FIDO-enabled biometric authentication for online services

TOKYO, May 26, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that effective immediately it has become a board member with the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) Alliance, an international nonprofit organization driving the effort to standardize password-less online authentication based on public key cryptography and biometric technologies. In a related move, DOCOMO online services such as d book, d game, d music, d delivery, Pet Insurance and more will become password-less on May 27, allowing users to access these services and make payments using iris recognition or fingerprint authentication.

DOCOMO expects to become the world's first mobile operator to integrate online services with smartphones capable of FIDO-enabled multiple biometric authentication.

The FIDO Alliance has nearly 200 members, including blue-chip technology giants such as Microsoft, Google, Nok Nok Labs, Qualcomm, ARM, and Samsung.

DOCOMO has been working to integrate FIDO-enabled biometric authentication technologies into its smartphones since last year. The company is now deploying and enhancing mobile network services equipped for biometric authentication based on compatibility with the FIDO 1.0 protocol. DOCOMO will lend its expertise in this field to contribute to FIDO's standardization initiatives and the effort to create an increasingly strong and secure authentication ecosystem.

Four smartphones in DOCOMO's 2015 summer lineup-Galaxy S6 edge SC-04G, Galaxy S6 SC-05G, ARROWS NX F-04G and AQUOS ZETA SH-03G-offer biometric authentication capability.

Going forward, DOCOMO will team up with outside partners and third-party service providers to further drive authentication standardization in the effort to create a world without passwords.
