MANILA, Sept 16, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - Intel once again will play a major role as a strategic partner supporting the eighth annual Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) and the Asian CSR Awards to be held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Manila on November 19 & 20, 2009. The theme of the conference is "Sustaining CSR in Difficult Times: How Business Can Benefit and Why It Still Makes Business Sense."
In association with the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Intel also offers the Intel-AIM Corporate Responsibility Award (IACRA), which honors companies in Asia for excellent CSR projects in one or more of the following areas:
-Education Improving Access to and Quality of Basic Education -Community Involvement providing sustainable executive time and attention -Environmental Stewardship taking the lead in improving the environment -Poverty Alleviation through providing innovative use of ICT
The Intel-AIM Corporate Responsibility Award is non-competitive and not for a specific project or program, but for a company that best lives and breathes corporate social responsibility. This is different from the Asian CSR Awards, a program that recognizes and honors Asian companies for outstanding, innovative and world-class products, services, projects and programs with CSR commitments. Companies can enter the Asian CSR Awards as many projects as they wish in one or more of these categories: Best Workplace Practices, Concern for Health, Environmental Excellence, Poverty Alleviation and Support and Improvement of Education. The award comes with a $20,000 grant from Intel, intended to further support the awardee's CSR programs. Last year, Shakarganj Mills Ltd. of Pakistan won the award; in 2007, Ballarpur Industries of India was the awardee.
"Intel is honored to again be AFCSR's strategic partner this year," says Dr. Anjan Ghosh, Intel's Director for Corporate Affairs in Asia Pacific. "The theme of the Conference echoes our belief that even in difficult times, CSR benefits business and that it must therefore be sustained."
Intel's approach to corporate responsibility is motivated by the understanding that the success of the company cannot be separated from the health of the planet and of economies around the world. Critical to Intel's approach is the fact that although significant investments are made, the company does more than make financial contributions Intel gets directly involved with sustained programs and advocacy to drive change at a community, national and global level. Intel, the world leader in silicon innovation, develops technologies, products and initiatives to continuously advance how people work and live.
