The Coca-Cola Company Plays Leading Role to Promote Sustaining CSR in Difficult Times

MANILA, Oct 13, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - The Coca-Cola Company once again demonstrated its strong support to the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) for this year as Official Industry Partner (Gold Sponsor). AFCSR, now on its eighth year will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Manila, Philippines on November 19 & 20, 2009.

For seven years, The Coca-Cola Company helps bring together senior business executives, government officials and major NGO's throughout the Asian region to share Worldwide CSR Thinking and Experience. This year's theme is "Sustaining CSR in Difficult Times: How business can benefit and why it still makes business sense."

With an enduring commitment to building sustainable communities, The Coca-Cola Company is focused on initiatives such as water stewardship, active healthy living, community recycling, and education to improve the quality of life in the communities where the Company operates.

Mr. Ramon R. del Rosario, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. AIM Center for Corporate Responsibility (AIM-RVR Center) said: "The Coca-Cola Company has a clear, long-term vision and a sustainable approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that goes beyond philanthropic contributions to leverage its resources, capabilities and reach. These CSR efforts continue to add value to local communities and many of these programs have been recognised by external parties. Coca-Cola's continued support to the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility has further demonstrated its dedicated efforts in promoting CSR in the region."

Commenting on Coca-Cola's support of CSR and continued participation in the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility, Mr. Jose Bayani (JB) Baylon, Public Affairs & Communications Vice President, Coca-Cola Philippines said: "For over 120 years, Coca-Cola has been part of the fabric of the communities in the markets in which we do business, helping develop a foundation for growth in the areas of clean water, good jobs, nutrition, education, and a healthy environment.

"We recognize that we cannot succeed unless we also work to support the sustainability of the communities around us, and help them thrive. We believe that we can help drive incremental progress through our leadership and by collaborating with organizations and industry to build capability in the area of CSR, transferring best practices and helping to develop new skills."

In the Philippines, Coca-Cola's signature Little Red Schoolhouse has reached over 56,000 students, parents and teachers by providing basic education to children in remote areas with the construction of 80 schools. The Company's NutriJjuice program is also currently providing 30,000 elementary students for 120 days an orange juice fortified with iron, zinc, lysine, Vitamins A and C, to help combat iron deficiency anemia. During the recent devastation by tropical storm Ondoy in Manila, Coca-Cola Philippines responded immediately by pledging to provide P2 million of relief goods to the ABS-CBN Foundation and delivered truckloads of clean drinking water to the victims.

Recognized as being the largest and most significant conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Asia, the AFCSR program includes a combination of plenary and concurrent special interest sessions featuring business and political leaders, as well as high-ranking executives from international organizations and non-government organizations from all over the world. 60 to 80 chief executive officers and senior management from several nations will be workshop speakers at the event.
