Fujitsu Strengthens its Ubiquitous Solutions Business

TOKYO, Oct 29, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu Limited today announced that it will strengthen its Ubiquitous Solutions business, which includes PCs and smartphones, with the goal of developing competitive and superior products and expanding its business. In addition, Fujitsu will also accelerate support for its IoT(1) business, an area of future growth where it is enhancing its initiatives on a company-wide basis.

Background and Direction

In the market environment surrounding the businesses in Fujitsu's Ubiquitous Solutions segment, which is centered on PCs and smartphones, commoditization has been advancing year after year, making product differentiation increasingly difficult. As the competition from rising global vendors intensifies, it is more essential than ever before to have rapid management decision-making and an efficient product development organization.

At the same time, with regard to the IoT business, for which the market is expected to expand, Fujitsu has been pushing ahead with company-wide initiatives on many fronts, from cloud, platforms, and networks to front-end devices. To maintain its edge in this field, however, it must further strengthen its IoT technology.

In this situation, in order for the businesses in Fujitsu's Ubiquitous Solutions segment to maintain competitiveness and achieve continued growth, Fujitsu will strengthen its existing PC and mobile phone businesses, while also enhancing its IoT business organization.

About the New Business Structure

With respect to the PC and mobile phone businesses, in order to strengthen these businesses through accelerated management decisions and the pursuit of engrained efficiencies, Fujitsu is planning to split each of these businesses off as wholly owned subsidiaries. This will enable them to provide the market with even more competitive and timely new products.

At the same time, IoT-related technologies as well as the planning, development, manufacturing, and sales organizations related to IoT, which are dispersed throughout Fujitsu Group, will be consolidated in a company-wide IoT business unit, strengthening it as a core business.
