GENEVE, CH, May 24, 2016 - (JCN Newswire) - GE Honda Aero Engine's HF120 turbofan engine received type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on April 20, 2016.
"The EASA type certification on the HF120 engine is a significant achievement for the GHAE team," said Steve Shaknaitis, president of GE Honda Aero Engines. "GHAE has worked closely with EASA since our familiarization meeting to complete 15 certification reports that have now been fully approved. We are very pleased to introduce the HF120 to Europe."
GE Honda Aero Engines (GHAE) continues to support Honda Aircraft Company's HondaJet program and its successful worldwide Entry Into Service (EIS). Earlier this year, GHAE expanded its European Authorized Service Providers (ASPs) network for the HF120 by adding Marshall Aviation Services (Cambridge, UK), which joined TAG Aviation (Farnborough, UK) and Rheinland Air Service (Monchengladbach, Germany). GHAE's ASPs are capable of performing line maintenance, engine installation and removal, and support of rental engine logistics for HF120 shop visits.
The ASP network is supported by a 24/7 GE Honda Operations Center, and a growing GHAE team of dedicated Field Technical Managers (FTMs) and Customer Team Managers (CTMs).
In February of 2016, GHAE's designated Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility, Honda Aero, Inc. (HAI), in Burlington, NC, secured a PART 145 repair station certificate from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This certificate enables HAI to serve as the dedicated MRO center for the HF120. This same facility, where the current HF120 new engine production takes place, received its FAA Production Certificate in March, 2015. By combining the production and maintenance operation on one site, GHAE can offer more flexibility to its customers.
Rated at 2,095 pounds of thrust, the HF120 engine sets new standards of performance in fuel efficiency, durability, and low noise and emissions. To date, the HF120 program has accumulated close to 23,000 cycles and more than 13,000 hours demonstrating maturity for an exemplary entry into service.
