MHI Thermal Systems Commercializes All-electric Reefers for Hino Motors' "Profia COOL Hybrid" Electric Refrigerated Trucks
New Offerings Achieve Faster Pre-cooling and Long Operation Even When the Vehicle Engine is Off

- MHI Thermal Systems in charge of reefer development and manufacture; provision to be handled by Ryoju Cold Chain
- Large-capacity, high-efficiency operation simultaneously achieved from proprietary 3D scroll hermetic inverter compressor, etc.

TOKYO, Sept 26, 2018 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. (MHI Thermal Systems), a Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has achieved commercial production of all-electric truck/trailer reefers engineered exclusively for the electric refrigerated trucks-dubbed the "Hino Profia COOL Hybrids"-planned for launching in summer 2019 by Hino Motors, Ltd. Flexible refrigeration capability independent of the vehicle's speed is made possible through adoption of MHI Thermal Systems' proprietary 3D scroll hermetic inverter compressor, etc. The new reefers offer faster pre-cooling of the cargo room and can continue operating for many hours even when the vehicle's engine is off. They will be supplied to Hino Motors through MHI Thermal Systems' domestic sales firm Ryoju Cold Chain Co., Ltd. (RCC).

All-electric Reefers for Hino Motors

The reefers newly commercialized for the Hino Profia COOL Hybrid trucks will be one model type within the widely acclaimed "TEJ100 Series" launched by MHI Thermal Systems through RCC in winter 2016. Based on the Series's general-purpose reefers introduced earlier, the new reefers have been optimized to deliver superlative performance specifically in combination with the Hino Profia COOL Hybrid models. They provide one of the largest refrigeration capacities in this class, ideal for transporting frozen food and ice cream, and operate at high capacity matching the abundant power supplied by the power source while simultaneously achieving high-efficiency operation in accordance with the cargo room temperature. The refrigerant used in the new reefers is the R410A, which features only about half the global warming potential of the R404A, the most common refrigerant of truck/trailer reefers. Adoption of the R410A will contribute to the Hino Profia COOL Hybrids' outstanding energy savings and environmental performance.
The new reefers' 3D scroll hermetic inverter compressor features MHI Thermal Systems' proprietary axial compression mechanism and gas injection, and is based on MHI Group's unique differentiated technologies derived from its expansive portfolio of air-conditioning and refrigeration products, including multi-system air conditioners for commercial installations. Within the TEJ100 Series, models equipped with dual-compartment "multi" specifications can simultaneously transport cargo at different temperatures; through use of circuitry and electronic expansion valves to connect one inverter compressor with two evaporators, freezing capacity is freely distributed under advanced control, delivering maximum performance regardless of operating conditions. Also, in addition to fine temperature control, energy savings are realized from efficient use of electricity.

Being offered in combination with the Hino Profia COOL Hybrid trucks, which come in a broad lineup of large-scale offerings, MHI Thermal Systems' new reefers will satisfy a diverse range of customer requirements.

Going forward, MHI Thermal Systems and RCC will continue to work closely in developing and marketing truck/trailer reefers that enhance the energy efficiency and environmental performance of refrigerated trucks. By further developing the cold distribution market, the two companies will contribute to the creation of a low-carbon society.
