ST-Ericsson Launches Innovative Charging Solution for Mobile Devices
First member of new PowerHUB(TM) family to reduce charging time by 50 percent

GENEVE, CH, Feb 10, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - ST-Ericsson, a world leader in wireless platforms and semiconductors, is launching a power management solution that significantly reduces the charging time for mobile devices from a wall socket. This innovation is part of ST-Ericsson's new PowerHUB(TM) family of products that will also harvest energy from a wide range of sources, making it quicker for people to charge their mobile devices, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

With the compact and cost-effective PM2300, a 3 amps charger can be used, instead of the standard 1.5 amps, thus reducing by 50 percent the charging time. This also allows the mobile device to be charged while being used intensively in charging mode. The first tablets equipped with the PM2300 are set to be launched commercially in the fall of 2011.

"We are creating easier, greener, faster, in short more innovative, ways to power up smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. People can recharge their batteries more quickly and thus enjoy a better mobile experience," said Patrick Dureault, vice president, head of Analog & Mixed Signal business unit at ST-Ericsson. "For ST-Ericsson this is only the beginning, as the PM2300 will be followed by more and more PowerHUB(TM) energy harvesting solutions in 2011."

PowerHUB(TM) will come with a full range of innovative products combining conventional charging technologies and new energy sources, thus providing a new level of flexibility and scalability for the energy management in portable devices.

According to IHS iSuppli research, ST-Ericsson is the leading supplier in mobile handset standalone analog baseband ICs, with an estimated global market share of 32% in 2010.

Using leading-edge micro and nanotechnologies, ST-Ericsson is developing future PowerHUB(TM) solutions that will be able to draw energy from solar cells, wireless chargers and physical movement, automatically using the optimum power source or best combination of sources available at any time for maximum efficiency.

Notes to Editors

To save space and improve efficiency, the PM2300 uses an innovative dual DC/DC structure made up of two small coils, rather than one large coil.
