SINGAPORE, Mar 24, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Asia's leading precision engineering trade exhibition and business forum, MTA2011, returned today at the Singapore Expo for four days from 23 - 26 March 2011. The event will see the participation of almost 600 exhibitors - about 70 per cent of which hail from overseas - coming from 36 countries and regions. They will showcase the latest in machine tools and technologies from across the globe to serve the region's precision engineering industries.
This flagship industry event will offer trade professionals a platform to source state-of-the-art machines and technologies, forge business relations, and gather knowledge on the latest developments in the industry today. The hosting of the event is especially timely as the industry continues its strong recovery. For the month of January, Singapore's manufacturing output increased 10.5 per cent year-on-year. This growth was primarily driven by the precision engineering cluster, which saw its output grow 41 per cent.
At the Opening Ceremony of MTA2011, Mr. S Iswaran, Singapore's Senior Minster of State for Trade & Industry and Education said, "There is room and potential for even more growth in the precision engineering sector if we can strengthen our capabilities and further boost our global competitiveness. Studies have shown that the productivity levels of our precision engineering sector is only about half of that in developed countries such as the US, Germany and Japan. To raise our productivity, we need to move up the value chain by broadening and deepening the industry's scope."
MTA2011 focuses on strategic growth sectors
This year's exhibition will feature manufacturing clusters that target the specific growth sectors of oil & gas, aerospace and medical technology. According to experts, Asia is an emerging market for the oil & gas industry for demand and supply. Companies are positive about the oil industry's capital investments and see the most opportunities hailing from Southeast Asia, China and the Far East this year. Among the exhibitors who are using MTA2011 to tap into this burgeoning market are Flexspeed Technology, Hankook, Ichi Seiki, Yamaris and Yamazen.
The aerospace industry has rebounded from the financial crisis of 2008, witnessing an impressive growth since. While the U.S and Europe are dominant markets, the industry is looking to China and India as the most promising countries. Realising the opportunities in this market, companies such as DKSH Technology, DMG/MORI SEIKI, Hwacheon and Super Abrasive Engineering are using MTA2011 as a platform to showcase their products and solutions.
Agie Charmilles, Makino, Munger Machine Tool and Tornos are some of the MTA2011 exhibitors who will be at the Medical Technology cluster to ride on the growth of this industry. There are more biomedical companies investing in the Asia Pacific region as the demand for medical devices in Asia increases. The growth in demand for these devices in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to double that of the world by 2015.
Exhibitors who have positioned themselves at these three clusters will display state-of-the-art machines for these sectors as well as those that meet the needs of the traditional precision engineering base. The grouping of sectors not only allows buyers to focus on their specific needs, it also gives them a chance to tap on unexplored business opportunities in these areas.
"Industry players are now increasing their efforts to grow their manufacturing capabilities. They realise that moving up the manufacturing value chain into high value sectors is necessary for long term growth. As the leading precision engineering event in Asia, MTA2011 supports the development of the region's manufacturing industry into the high mix low volume environments by providing buyers and sellers a platform to gain access to the latest precision engineering and machine tool technologies in the market," said Mr William Lim, Project Director at Singapore Exhibition Services (SES), organiser of MTA2011.
MTA2011 also incorporates MetalAsia2011, MetrologyAsia2011, OutSource&SubCon2011, iAutomation2011, WeldTech2011 and ToolTec2011, all specialised events that cater to the individual needs of Asia's manufacturing industry.
Thought-provoking conferences held at MTA2011
Co-located with the exhibition is the Precision Engineering Business Forum, which returns for another edition to offer valuable insights and perspectives from industry experts. Jointly organised by SES and the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), the forum is the only one of its kind in the region and will cover the pertinent business and technology issues and developments facing the aerospace, medical technology, oil & gas and surface finishing sectors today. The forum features a distinguished panel of speakers including industry experts from Boeing, GE Healthcare, Rolls-Royce, Schlumberger as well as SIMTech who will discuss thought-provoking topics over two days from 24 -25 March.
The International Conference on Optics in Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (icOPEN2011) is held for the first time alongside MTA2011. Organised by the Optics and Photonics Society of Singapore (OPSS), this is an especially timely conference as optics and photonics make inroads into almost all areas of science and engineering. Over three days from 23 - 25 March, icOPEN2011 will bring together prominent researchers from the industry and academia that will discuss the latest developments and promote the development of optics.
