FINDLAY, Ohio, Mar 1, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Marathon Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: MPC) today announced a corporate officer appointment effective immediately. Rodney P. Nichols, currently vice president, Human Resources and Administrative Services for MPC, was named senior vice president, Human Resources and Administrative Services. Nichols will continue to be based at MPC's headquarters in Findlay, Ohio.
Nichols will continue to have responsibility for several MPC business support functions encompassing Human Resources, Administrative Services and Aviation.
Commenting on the appointment, Gary R. Rodney P. Nichols began his employment with Marathon Oil Company in 1977 as an employee relations representative in the Corporate Industrial Relations Organization. After an assignment in the company's Northeastern Production District, Nichols served in a number of Employee Relations management positions in the Anchorage, Alaska, and Casper, Wyo., Production Divisions and in the Louisiana and Texas Refining Divisions. Nichols was then promoted in 1986 to manager of Human Resources in the companies Refining, Marketing and Transportation organization. With the formation of Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC in January 1998, Nichols was promoted to vice president, Human Resources and Administrative Services. As a result of today's appointment, Nichols is senior vice president, Human Resources and Administrative Services for MPC.
Nichols holds a master's degree in labor and industrial relations and a bachelor's degree in advertising from Michigan State University. He attended the Advanced Human Resource Executive Program at the University of Michigan Business School in 2002.
Nichols serves on the Blanchard Valley Health Association board of trustees, Audit and Human Resources Boards, is the chairman of the board of trustees for the Blanchard Valley Medical Practice LLC, and is a member of Michigan State University's School of Human Resources & Labor Relations Advisory Board.
