Jet Li backs Habitat Youth BUILD 2012
Celebrities come out in force to join 1 million volunteers building homes, awareness and support in tackling substandard housing across Asia-Pacific

SINGAPORE, Apr 12, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - One month from today, on 12 May, Jet Li and a host of other celebrities will join thousands of young Habitat for Humanity volunteers simultaneously building houses in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.

In a video launched today, Jet Li explains that for him "home is a place on earth filled with love" and invites people to join him building homes in Guangdong, China, one of the Habitat Youth BUILD sites, on 12 May.

The video also features Hong Kong actor Michael Wong, Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari, Filipino actor Matteo Guidicelli, Hong Kong entrepreneur Christie Wo, and Filipino boxer turned politician Manny Pacquiao.

Hundreds of thousands of young volunteers have spent the last few months using their social and digital networks to raise funds and draw attention to the dire housing situation in Asia-Pacific. Using #habitatyouthbuild, adding the 'I am a Habitat YB supporter' badge to Facebook profiles, tweeting and posting about Habitat Youth BUILD, supporters will now be promoting this new video in a final push before the event on 12 May.

Other celebrities lending their support to the campaign are Hong Kong actor and singer-songwriter Karen Mok, Indian American actor Omi Vaidya and upcoming Thai singer Looksorn Bhandhukravi.

"Show that you care about a world where everyone has a decent place to live" says Alex Eduque, Habitat for Humanity Philippines' youth leader, in the video. "Nearly US$20,000 has been raised online already. Everything is shaping up for a truly memorable event on 12 May," adds Ariane Aliggayu, Habitat for Humanity's volunteer program manager for Asia-Pacific. "It is not too late to sign up and help us reach our target of raising enough money to build 250 homes in Asia. Post this video link on all your social network sites today and get friends and family to join our band of online supporters."

To view the video, donate, start a fundraising page, or to sign up to take part in a Habitat Youth BUILD event, or just for more information, visit habitatyouthbuild.org. Use #habitatyouthbuild to raise awareness online.
This is the first time that Habitat for Humanity has run a simultaneous build event across multiple countries in Asia-Pacific with all volunteers aged between 16 and 25 years old.
