Bill Frangeskakis, General Manager, Frontline, a sponsor company at the marcus evans Australian CIO Summit 2012, on using data to produce stronger results. |
London, May 16, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Chief Information Officers (CIOs) must help void the gap between Information Technology (IT) and business operations, says Bill Frangeskakis, General Manager, Frontline. Only when the two are linked will CIOs be able to turn data into business dollars, he adds.
From a sponsor company at the upcoming marcus evans Australian CIO Summit 2012, taking place in Queensland, Australia, 23 - 25 July, Frangeskakis discusses Business Intelligence (BI) and better utilising data.
- How can CIOs ensure that organisations make the most out of data?
In order to bring growth, productivity and efficiency to the business, it is essential CIOs correctly link business requirements to IT. There is currently a gap between IT and business operations that needs to be voided.
CIOs are charged with delivering the data that allows the business executives to turn it into dollars. Data has to be delivered in a way that allows executives to make accurate business decisions; it is all about business intelligence.
Businesses will require increasingly more from data, therefore they will need a larger infrastructure to support and process that.
- How can technology transform business processes to become more efficient?
Most people understand that if a company makes widgets and buys another widget making machine, it can make more dollars. However, the key in today's economic environment is turning information into money, which can only be done by better understanding the market and manufacturing processes. Businesses must inherently use information in more sophisticated ways to produce better results.
Although IT teams deliver the information, it is up to the business executives to manage it and understand what needs to be done. The utilisation of data is up to the business, and the managers within the business to analyse the information and what it means to them.
- How can CIOs successfully identify and mitigate IT risks?
When implementing technologies, whether it be software, hardware or infrastructure, the key decision criteria are the risks involved in implementing and investing in new assets. For example, if an organisation implements a new Enterprise Resource Planning system, it may not be able to process orders or generate invoices for some time, which would affect the business enormously.
- What upcoming trends do you believe CIOs should prepare for?
There are three trends that will continue to be key developments in IT. Firstly, mobile solutions are becoming more and more in vogue as they allow businesses to be transacted while out of the office, which is an ongoing development.
Secondly, globalisation is now allowing products to be sold all over the world, no matter where they are manufactured, allowing businesses to interact with clients on a completely different level.
Lastly, the cloud is still being discussed, as organisations see it as a way of not only doing business more efficiently, but driving greater agility.
