With the advent of AI, client expectations are evolving every day. The ability to adapt and innovate at nearly breakneck pace is the new standard. The companies that are in sync will survive. While those that actually go beyond expectations and create new benchmarks will lead the race. To be a leader, first you need fearless leadership from someone who sees the future. It’s a breed of people with self-belief and the ability to stay ahead of the curve. One such is Sunny Nandwani. With 20 years of experience, including early tech consulting roles at Infosys and Accenture, has led him to found and successfully lead Acuver since 2013, making him a true leader in the supply chain industry.
This is not merely a statement. It is a true reflection of his stature in his field – a visionary even, with a vision to foster groundbreaking advancements on a global scale in the field of IT and supply chain management. Over time, Acuver has generated world-beating solutions in the categories of Order Management, Warehouse Management and Software Engineering. All with customised implementation for clients, managed services backed by quality engineering and bespoke solutions developed for specific client issues.
In leading Acuver, Mr. Nandwani has led revolutions across industries, servicing a diverse global clientele list while earning his company a spot at the Forbes India Select 200 DGEMS in 2024. One of the primary reasons is the launch of Aekyam Gen AI iPaaS, a highly successful Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) solution. Nandwani’s ability to discern clients’ pain points, navigate complexities, and anticipate industry changes, is what has made Acuver what it is today – not just a leader in India but across the globe with offices in the US as well. This is also what led us to talk to him about his journey so far, his goals for the future and what exactly makes for a company to become as successful as this in just over a decade.
Q. How and why did you choose the world of IT and supply change management from a diverse set of applications of tech?
A. During the early years of my consulting journey, my focus consistently revolved around delivering technical solutions to real-world challenges—many of which lay at the intersection of supply chain technology and consulting. Over time, I observed that the full potential of technology was not being leveraged to create transformative solutions. To me, this gap represented a compelling opportunity—to redefine client value propositions through innovative, cutting-edge approaches that push the boundaries of what’s possible.
It became my purpose in life to explore the possibility of improving the processes for each of my clients. I began to gauge the exact balance of technology, business and functional knowledge to find the sweet spot for each client individually. It’s a vision I apply to this day and will continue to do so into the future. Frankly, it’s not about what is being used today, but about creating for tomorrow. That’s what excites me – creating the future. This vision allows me to design solutions that are unique and relevant. Basically, whatever I do is for the sake of fine-tuning business KPI – a combination of people, processes and technology.
To go back a little, while working in my previous firms, I began applying my understanding and problem-solving techniques to distributed order management, multi-channel fulfilment, warehouse management, and logistics management. After years in this niche segment, I realised I was ready for my next big undertaking: Acuver Consulting, a place where I could implement my vision – of a team that thought like me and believed in the same things I did Which was, to provide solutions that would excite us and our clients. Having worked through business problems every day of my career, I felt confident that my approach would set my business apart from competitors.
Q. Starting with India, in one short decade you’ve expanded into APAC and US. Do the culture differences change things for you whenever you step into a new country and start working with multi-nationals?
A. Actually, it has been an incredible opportunity to work with such a diverse client deck. I’ve realised that no matter what culture or region you work in, the problems of human expectations and problems in operations of supply chain management are consistent. And yet it is the cultural nuances that the solutions must be based on. While regulatory rules and infrastructure help us create solutions, it is consumer behaviour, the cultural context and environment that allows us to implement said solutions in the optimal manner. Personally, this interaction with various cultures has helped me stay flexible and adaptive throughout my career.
Q. Acuver has grown exponentially in the US market in a very short span of time. To what do you owe this success?
A. The US is a very interesting market. With a large geographical spread, a multi-ethnic population and a consumption driven culture, it is extremely challenging and yet, rewarding at the same time. Also, being an evolved market, I wanted to meet this challenge head on. My belief being, ‘You can only be a leader when you face the biggest challenge.’
So, I expanded Acuver into the US. To my pleasure, I found that my vision, capabilities and future-worthiness were immediately validated. Bringing Acuver to the forefront in the field. Clients such as Glen Raven, BJ's Wholesale Club, and Advance Auto Parts have been benefiting from our services and offerings. As we’ve expanded into various sectors, we have brought together highly qualified mentors, specialists, and created a leadership team to work with me as a catalyst of growth.
Today, our ambitious growth strategy is focused on expanding our footprint across diverse industry verticals in the U.S. market. Our go-to-market strategy, developed in collaboration with IBM, supports our modular offerings and enhances our ability to scale. Our flagship product, Aekyam, has consistently delivered significant value to customers in the U.S. and globally, driving impactful results wherever implemented.
How does Acuver’s mission and vision align with your future aspirations in the supply chain industry?
Acuver’s mission has always been rooted in trust, inclusivity, growth, sustainability, and resilience. And, it's my mission too. This is what I envision for the future of this industry. The industry needs to not just be efficient but adaptive, resilient, empathetic and inclusive. Disruptions are now becoming a norm rather than an exception, and I believe we need to create ecosystems that lead with agility and swiftness. My aspiration is to keep pushing boundaries of what we’re capable of, through services like Aekyam, partnerships and nurturing growth within the industry and companies, to not just react to the changes, but lead it with purpose.
Looking outwards towards our clients, we hope to transform how they engage with their customers, optimize operational efficiency, and adopt next-generation digital technologies. It is our commitment to deliver exceptional results for them while being recognized for our domain expertise and unwavering dedication to quality.
What would you say you’re the proudest of so far, in your journey? And, do you have any advice for young leaders looking to build a successful business?
There is a lot to be proud of, but my employees are what make me the proudest. Acuver would not be as successful without them and their work. Watching incredibly talented individuals from across different backgrounds and regions come together to provide innovative solutions, and also challenge each other, has been truly rewarding.
For young aspiring leaders, I would advise, fostering an environment of open communication, cross collaboration and empathy. A fine mix of these is imperative to ensure your organisation’s longevity. Don’t be afraid to build slowly, if it means building integrity.
