70+ Special Events, from Wine Tastings to Cocktail Sessions |
HONG KONG, Nov 7, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - More than 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries and regions, a new exhibitor record, are taking part in the HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair, which opened today and continues through 9 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Wine-Country Pavilions
The three-day event includes first-time exhibitors from Jordan, Lithuania, Montenegro and Morocco. Thirty pavilions are also participating, including Spain, this year's Partner Country, which features more than 90 exhibitors. The fair's two largest pavilions, from France and Italy, are showcasing the products of over 300 exhibitors.
Pavilions new to the fair are: the Chinese mainland's Penglai Vine and Wine Bureau and the Xining City Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Japan's Kagoshima Prefectural Government and Niigata Sake Brewers Association, Wines of Turkey, and the United States' North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Everything Spanish
More than 70 special events have been arranged. ICEX Spain Trade and Investment is organising a variety of seminars and wine-tasting sessions, ranging from sweet and fortified, to food pairing, white and sparkling, and every red but Tempranillo. On Saturday, the Wines from Spain and Spanish Trade Commission (Hong Kong) will present "Finest Wines from Spain - Grand Tasting," a Spanish fine-wine-tasting session; wine from 19 Spanish wineries will be available.
Other fine-wine-tastings on offer include this afternoon's German Riesling session and Friday afternoon's premium port session. The fifth Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition Award Presentation Ceremony takes place this evening, followed by a Gala Wine Dinner under the theme "Winds from Spain."
Tasting Journeys
The Wine and Spirit Education Trust is organising "A Tasting Journey through Gin: Uncovering Styles and Flavours," this morning and "Alternative Bubbles, Sparkling Wines Beyond Champagne" tomorrow morning. Saturday afternoon, the Japan External Trade Organisation presents a sake-tasting session. Cocktail demonstrations take place at the Ice Bar throughout the fair.
Wine Conference
"Driving Growth: Global Wine Industry Trends" is the theme of this afternoon's Wine Industry Conference. The Asia Top Sommelier Summit takes place tomorrow, presenting "The New Mapping of a World-Class Wine List."
Trade buyers can take part in "The Favourite Wine Voting Game," featuring five categories: red wine, white wine, spirits, Japanese sake and other; participants may win coupons for the HKTDC Design Gallery.
Public Day
The fair is open to the public, 18 and above (admission HK$200), on Saturday, 9 November. Public visitors can take part in a number of wine-tasting sessions and attend cocktail demonstrations, as well as a special Fine-Wine-Tasting Session spotlighting Spanish wine; admission is HK$500 for this tasting, including the fair's HK$200 entry fee.
Other Public Day events include a seminar, "To Learn or Not to Learn," hosted by the Asia Wine Service & Education Centre, and a master class, "Yum Cha, Yum Jiu: Chinese Sauces and Wine," led by Master of Wine Debra Meiburg. Four art pieces from the "Cry Series," by Yin Jun, will be on display at the Wine Gallery during the fair, supported by the Art Futures Group.
Buyer Specials
This year's special wine offerings include: Champagne Colin, gold-award winner at the 2012 Concours des Vignerons Independants; Riesling wine from Knipser, which received five-star recognition from three leading German wine guides in 2011; and Turkish wine presented by Kavaklidere Saraplari AS, one of the country's largest wineries.
Notable spirits at the fair include: Remy Martin's limited-edition Louis XIII Black Pearl Magnum, from Amazing Wine Global Ltd, at HK$500,000 a bottle; Suigei Kochikobo Daiginjohas, which has won the gold prize in the Japan National New Sake Competition for five straight years; and Taiwan's Kavalan Single Malt Whisky, named "The New World's Whisky of the Year."
