Hua Hong Semiconductor and eMemory Technology Build Powerful Alliance to Prepare for IoT by Taking Advantage of MCU

HONG KONG, Mar 23, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Hua Hong Semiconductor Limited ("Hua Hong Semiconductor" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries, the "Group", stock code: 1347), a leading pure-play 200mm foundry in the world, and eMemory Technology Inc., a leading manufacturer of embedded Non-Volatile Memory (eNVM), jointly announced today that the two parties will further strengthen their strategic partnership over years to comprehensively deepen the cooperation in the field of microcontroller (MCU), including the extension of their current technology cooperation to the 90nm node and the in-depth cooperation in development and production of multiple embedded Non-Volatile Memory solutions, in order to provide complete solution to the rapidly growing Internet of Things (IoT) market.

Hua Hong Semiconductor and eMemory have started collaboration in the OTP (One-Time Programming) technology platform since 2005, and successfully shipped accumulated wafers more than 270,000. Especially in 2014, the MCU shipment volume of Hua Hong Semiconductor's OTP technology platform grew strongly and created a record high of 89,000 wafers with a year-on-year increase of over 115%. Its cost-effective OTP technology for 8-bit MCUs has been widely used in various fields, such as small home appliances, wireless mouse, toys, etc. Hua Hong Semiconductor also provide embedded Flash and EEPROM technologies for high performance MCUs, such as in microcontrollers for remote controls, home appliances, smart meters and touch screen controllers as well as in all kinds of smart cards.

The MCU solution successfully launched by Hua Hong Semiconductor and eMemory includes 0.18um and 0.13um cost-effective OTP processes, as well as cost-effective MTP (Multiple-Time Programming) and LogicEE (Logic Technology Compatible EEPROM) processes compliant with logic processes, and the platform can also enable a mixed function of OTP, MTP and LogicEE on the same IP and the same process. The 0.18um 3.3V and 5V OTP and MTP technology platform for 8-bit MCU has utilized the minimum number of mask layers in the industry, which differentiates itself as the highly cost-effective MCU solution on the market. The small size and low power consumption of OTP, MTP and LogicEE together with Hua Hong Semiconductor's low mask count, low power process technology could provide customers with complete MCU solutions for the IoT.

Hua Hong Semiconductor has obtained independent design license of eMemory's NeoBit (OTP Silicon IP), NeoMTP (1,000+ Times Programmable Silicon IP) and NeoEE (100,000+ Times Programmable Silicon IP) - called in Hua Hong Semiconductor as OTP, MTP and LogicEE respectively - in 2011, and has further optimized the units - NeoBit, NeoMTP and NeoEE - by its experienced team for IP design, test and reliability assurance of embedded flash in combination with Hua Hong Semiconductor's technology features, in order to meet the diversified needs from customers.
