NEC Exhibits PASOLINK NEO High Performance (HP) at Broadband World Forum Europe 2009

TOKYO & LONDON, Sept 8, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - NEC Corporation announced today that it will be exhibiting its PASOLINK NEO HP at Broadband World Forum Europe 2009 in Paris, France.

PASOLINK NEO HP is the top end of NEC's PASOLINK NEO product line and boasts Multilevel Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (256QAM), which more than doubles the machine's transmission capacity when compared to current PASOLINK models (more than 1Gbps capability). Moreover, the system boasts VLAN/Qos/AMR functionality, and high capacity IP data transmission, which is required for mobile backhaul as well as for networks supporting WiMAX and communications between mobile phone base stations and base station control units.

Due to the increase of both mobile phone and mobile internet subscribers worldwide, as well as the expanding broadband access market, the demand for PASOLINK is expected to continue growing. There are currently two major changes occurring in the mobile backhaul market. One is the massive increase in data traffic due to the installation of high speed packet data services such as HSPA (High Speed Packet Access); the second is the shift to IP networks. In order for mobile operators to provide high capacity data services at a low cost, it is crucial to optimize mobile backhaul and to meet new demands.

NEC first developed and installed PASOLINK in the early 1980s and currently offers the product line in 136 countries through a wide variety of mobile operators. PASOLINK NEO HP is expected to account for a 20% share of total PASOLINK shipments this year and more than 50% by 2012.
