Lockheed Martin Awards NEC Corporation Contract for Ka-Band Multipack Converters for Arabsat 6A and Hellas-Sat-4/SaudiGeoSat-1 Satellites

TOKYO, Oct 8, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced the receipt of an order from Lockheed Martin Corporation for its newly developed Ka-Band Multipack Converters for the Arabsat 6A and Hellas-Sat-4/SaudiGeoSat-1 communication satellites.

The new Ka-Band Multipack Converter occupies less mass and less space when compared with the conventional standalone type converter. This contributes significantly to the economic efficiency of a satellite by saving on launch costs due to the reduced mass and by freeing up space for additional transponders on a satellite.

NEC Space Technologies, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC, will design and manufacture the Ka-Band Multipack Converter. Delivery of the equipment is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2016, then integrated by Lockheed Martin into its A2100 satellite bus. The launch of these satellites is planned in 2018.

Susumu Yamaguchi, President of NEC Space Technologies, Ltd. said, "We are proud to contribute to Lockheed Martin with our Multipack Converters, which promise to help realize satellites that provide superior Return on Investment. We develop our products by carefully listening to the voices and anticipating the needs of our customers. Going forward, we will continue to plan and develop the products that provide added-value for our customers."
