NEC Australia to Build New Federal Government System to Support Apprenticeships

TOKYO, Oct 19, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation, has been selected by the Department of Education and Training to develop, implement and host a new IT platform to improve the services provided to apprentices and their employers throughout Australia.

The multi-year contract will automate many of the manual and paper-based processes involved in administering apprenticeships in Australia. The system, called the Australian Apprenticeships Management System (AAMS), is part of the Federal Government's plan to improve support for employers and apprentices as well as streamline payments that are currently made through the legacy Training and Youth Internet Management System (TYIMS).

"NEC Australia is extremely pleased and excited to have been chosen to deliver the new system," said Chris Korte, Director of Sales at NEC Australia. "This is a critical and incredibly complex solution that will need to interface seamlessly with some of the largest government IT systems in Australia, including Centrelink and the Australian Taxation Office. AAMS will also support a vast network of interfaces between the Federal, State and Territory Government systems including: training.gov.au, the Australian Business Register and Australia Post."

Most importantly, "NEC Australia has proven its application development credentials having successfully delivered and managed other related systems at State Government level. NEC's approach will deliver a system that will offer dramatic improvements in efficiency to all key stakeholders through richer capabilities designed to build an online support network for providers to improve the services delivered to employers and apprentices throughout Australia."

The NEC-built system will become a centre-piece to the government's ability to deliver exceptional service levels and an optimal service experience for apprentices and employers as they engage with the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Programme and Trade Support Loans. Service improvements will be delivered by replacing many paper-based processes with online processes covering registration, new claims lodgement and payment delivery as examples.

The new hosted platform, based on Microsoft Dynamics CRM, will become the central store for contracts and other employer, apprentice and network provider information. Additionally, the new solution will allow apprenticeship network providers to engage with apprentices and employers while also tracking their progress.

It's expected that the system will create up to 29,000 contracts per month, and support approximately 100 different payment types, as well as process up to 135,000 transactions per month. AAMS will replace TYIMS on 1 July 2016 and will support the recently launched Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN).
