TOKYO, Feb 22, 2016 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced that it will issue three white papers relating to 5G next-generation mobile telecommunications systems, coinciding with the holding of Mobile World Congress 2016 (February 22-25, 2016, Barcelona, Spain).
The three white papers are "Optimum Network Architecture for Full-scale IoT," "NFV C-RAN for efficient RAN resource allocation" and "Massive MIMO for High-capacity Mobile Access." NEC promotes a combination of these three technologies to realize the most practical and economical solution for 5G mobile network architecture.
Optimum network Architecture for Full-scale IoT
This white paper outlines new network architecture for the Internet of Things (IoT) era. It must guarantee three capabilities of efficiency, reliability and real-time capability. NEC is considering three steps of migration scenarios, such as creation of dedicated IoT networks, introduction of mobile-edge computing (MEC) and coordination between MEC and the cloud, to improve these three capabilities. Also NEC is developing context-aware control technologies to ensure more flexible and optimum control of networks to suit massive numbers of connected IoT devices.

NFV C-RAN for Efficient RAN Resource Allocation
This white paper outlines the future direction of NFV Cloud Radio Access Network (NFV C-RAN) technology, which enables RAN resources to be allocated dynamically and flexibly. NEC's NFV C-RAN realizes highly effective inter-cell interference mitigation by proprietary methods. NEC's fronthaul architecture can cope with high capacity data traffic while mitigating fronthaul requirements (e.g. latency). In addition, this paper describes a migration scenario toward 5G network including the concept of "virtualization of cells".

Massive MIMO for High-capacity Mobile Access
This white paper introduces the newly-developed prototype of Massive MIMO for 5G small cells, including the A4-sized massive-element Active Antenna System (AAS). Full digital beamforming is applied to this Massive MIMO and enables more accurate beams for higher spectrum efficiency. This new technologies can provide high speed next-generation mobile services and deliver significantly improved Quality of Experience (QoE) to all users and applications.

With the release of these white papers and through further research and development, NEC will continue to exercise its leadership as a company that distinguishes itself with innovative technologies in both the networking and computing domains. NEC is committed to being a social value innovator using 5G mobile networks to help create a better world.
Katsumi Tanoue, Deputy General Manager, Mobile Radio Access Network Division, NEC Corporation said, "We believe success for future mobile business will lie in open innovation and collaboration between network operators, vendors and industry verticals to build new ecosystems that generate benefits for society. NEC is therefore developing 5G solutions for social value platforms that will integrate mobile networks with ICT-enabled urban and industrial infrastructure to deliver wide-ranging applications such as ultra-high definition video broadcasts, advanced driver assistance and industrial IoT."
