TOKYO, Apr 23, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701), a leading network, communications and information technology company, announced today the conclusion of a framework agreement to deliver and install 18 new Culling, Facing, Cancelling and Revenue-protection (CFCR) systems for TNT Post B.V., the universal service provider for letter mail in the Netherlands. The new CFCR systems, based on NEC's latest NS-10 platform, will be used to replace and expand upon the services currently being provided by previous generations of NEC's CFC systems.
NEC's new NS-10, one of the most technologically advanced pre-processing platforms on the market, will significantly improve the handling of all non-bulk items. It has the capability to process all letter items, from small postcards to C4 "flat mail," and includes advanced revenue protection capabilities. Equipped with an in-line weighing device, advanced indicia detection and exact dimension measurement capability, the platform ensures that revenue is fully protected.
Using the NS-10, up to 90% of all collected mail can be automatically faced, scanned, cancelled, bar-coded, weighed, and sorted according to a wide range of non-address and address attributes with minimum human intervention. The NS-10 will also process Reply Mail, which requires sorting, counting and weighing in order accurately and efficiently bill the customer.
NEC has been supplying TNT Post with CFC platforms since 1974. Recent changes in the postal environment; particularly the decline in letter volumes and the corresponding increase of C4 items, have been a pressing issue for TNT. The NS-10 system is the first stage of a migration to a combined-stream mail processing operation. This allows TNT to combine both flat and letter streams, to increase returns on investments and to reduce operational expenditures while adding advanced revenue protection that further protects investments.
NEC's postal automation systems incorporate industry-leading, cutting-edge technology, which brings added value to its customers, and enables more productive and cost efficient business models. NEC will continue to improve postal technology and develop systems in line with market requirements.
