CANNES, FRANCE, May 12, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - Arclight Films today announced plans to begin principal photography of Bait, a stereoscopic 3D action thriller, in July at the Warner Roadshow Studios in Australia's Gold Coast.
Bait, produced by Australia's Arclight Film, Story Bridge Films and Pictures In Paradise as well as Singapore's Blackmagic Design, is funded by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) through its International Film Fund (IFF), and in Australia by Federal body Screen Australia and regionally Screen Queensland. The film is the first stereoscopic 3D project produced by both territories and is also the first official Australia-Singapore co-production under the Australia-Singapore Coproduction Treaty signed in 2007.
Said Dr Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer of MDA: "BAIT is progressing as planned with pre-visualisation and preliminary tests well underway and cast selection in the midst of confirmation. Our support for this film reaffirms our commitment to produce more stereoscopic 3D projects for the world's audience. We are very pleased that this is the first co-production with Australia and see this as a catalyst to more such projects."
BAIT, which has been pre-sold to over 24 territories, will be shot in Queensland, Australia with the support of Singapore's 3D specialists Widescreen Media and Blackmagic Design. Widescreen will provide 3D expertise for the filming while Blackmagic will manage the post- production and visual effects for the film.
"We are thrilled to be working with Screen Australia and the MDA in Singapore. They are invaluable partners along with Blackmagic Design and Widescreen Media, who are leading the Asian development in 3D Stereoscopic technology," said Gary Hamilton, Managing Director of Arclight Films.
Dr. Ruth Harley of Screen Australia said she was delighted that this groundbreaking production is now a reality. "We have high expectations for a stunning contribution to the burgeoning 3D entertainment experience."
BAIT, a film about a freak tsunami that hits a sleepy seaside town on the Gold Coast trapping dozens of local shoppers and tourists in a flooded underground supermarket and car park filled with a pack of hungry tiger sharks, was written and will be directed by Russell Mulcahy (RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION). The film is produced by Gary Hamilton of Arclight, Todd Fellman from Story Bridge Films, and Ian Maycock from Blackmagic Design. Executive producers are Chris Brown from Pictures in Paradise and Arclight's Mike Gabrawy.
