NEC Provides Cloud Computing Based Education System for Argentina's San Juan Province Ministry of Education

TOKYO, June 2, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the launch of a cloud computing based general education system through NEC Argentina S.A. (Headquarters: Buenos Aires, Argentina; NEC Argentina), a wholly owned NEC subsidiary, for the Ministry of Education in San Juan Province, Argentina. The province of San Juan has adopted this NEC Group solution as part of a government program to optimize the region's education system.

The new system is deployed with a datacenter located in the Ministry of Education. The system includes thin client terminals that are available within the Ministry, as well as 192 elementary schools around the capital of San Juan. The terminals and system are connected by a wide area wireless network with Wi-Fi technology. The Ministry of Education is offering schools a broad range of applications and services through Software as a Service (SaaS) and Desktop as a Service (DaaS) options that include e-mail, information portal services, e-learning services and virtual libraries. Furthermore, the system allows the Ministry and each participating school to securely share information while delivering well-balanced and high quality educational programs.

NEC and NEC Argentina have equipped the datacenter with IA Servers, NEC Express5800 Server Series, and Communication servers, UNIVERGE SV8500. The Ministry and elementary schools have been provided with approximately 400 virtual PC type thin client terminals (US110). Moreover, fingerprint identification systems ensure the secure use of these systems.

NEC Argentina has also installed and contributed to a variety of e-government solutions in the adjacent province of San Luis, including Education Management Suite (EMS) applications. NEC Argentina capitalized on this experience and know-how in IT and network technology to offer a cloud computing based education system to the province of San Juan's Ministry of Education.

San Juan Province is currently considering the provision of similar systems to approximately 350 public schools and additional ministries throughout the province.

Looking forward, NEC and NEC Argentina aim to continue promoting cloud computing for education systems across all of Argentina and Latin America as part of their drive to advance the improvement of educational infrastructure.
