TOKYO, June 8, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701), a leading network communications and information technology company, announced today the introduction of a new license scheme for its high-availability EXPRESSCLUSTER software that is ideal for virtual environments.
License fees for the new scheme are calculated based on the number of virtual servers in use, whereas the earlier scheme requires a license for each virtual CPU.
The new scheme enables users to flexibly adjust the number of virtual CPUs in response to load fluctuations since licensing fees remain fixed regardless of the number of virtual CPUs. As long as the number of virtual servers stays the same, the licensing fee also remains the same.
In order to improve their efficiency, it is increasingly necessary for the latest virtualization systems to change the number of CPUs as part of adjusting to load changes that, for example, take place between the day and night.
The new license scheme meets these requirements and improves customer convenience while reducing costs.
Furthermore, NEC will continue to provide its conventional virtual CPU-based license scheme, which enables customers to select the best licensing combination based on their system's configuration and operating needs.
EXPRESSCLUSTER secured top share for the Availability and Clustering software market in the Asia-Pacific region including Japan in 2009(1).
It also secured top share for the combined Windows and Linux market in Japan in 2009(2), thereby maintaining the top position in Japan for the 9th consecutive year.
Looking forward, NEC will continue to enhance EXPRESSCLUSTER features, improve its support services and actively work with partner companies to provide customers with a product they can count on.
