SINGAPORE, Nov 2, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - As part of efforts to internationalise Singapore's media sector, the Media Development Authority (MDA) and International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) will jointly lead a delegation of 11 Singapore companies on a business mission to Hollywood in conjunction with the American Film Market, which will take place in Santa Monica, United States, from 3 to 10 November.
Rated one of the top three film market events globally, the American Film Market 2010 is set to attract 8,000 participants from over the world. For the sixth year running, MDA will promote its location services at the market through a Location Singapore booth, which acts as a one-stop information centre for local and international filmmakers who wish to film in Singapore.
To help Singapore media companies access the US market, MDA is partnering with IE Singapore to bring a delegation of 14 senior business representatives from 11 media companies to the American Film Market this year. Apart from attending the event, the delegation, which comprises production and post-production houses, audio houses and animation studios, will be meeting executives from Hollywood studios and leading international film companies. Please see Annex for the list of companies in the Singapore delegation.
Ms Cassandra Tay, Director, Communications and Community & International Relations, MDA, said: "Our participation at American Film Market is part of our internationalisation efforts to help Singapore media companies gain exposure in the US market. We are happy to be working with IE Singapore to enhance our international marketing efforts and to strengthen the export of Singapore's media products and services."
"This joint-agency support will help promising Singapore media companies showcase our quality and unique east-west aesthetic to potential buyers. As the lead agency promoting overseas growth of Singapore-based enterprises and international trade, we also hope to develop a deeper understanding of the US film sector and how our companies can best access key markets. Singapore's media companies have an edge in the area of technology which will be a keen selling point addressing the growing use of computer graphics and high-tech effects. The business meetings with film distributors will be a valuable platform for participants to network with important media contacts and showcase their capabilities to one of the most influential film industries in the world," said Ms Lena Ng, Divisional Director, Infocomm & Media Division, IE Singapore.
In addition, MDA will be promoting its latest initiative ScreenSingapore to the international film fraternity at the American Film Market. ScreenSingapore is set to debut in June 2011 with plans to be the launch pad for international film releases in Asia and a platform for Asian content to be marketed to the world. It will be a meeting place for major stars and creative talents from around the world, and a hub for film-makers and the filmed entertainment business community to congregate in a neutral gateway that bridges the East and the West.
