HONG KONG, Dec 5, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - IMAGI International Holdings Limited ("IMAGI", together with its subsidiaries, "the Grou"; HKSE: 585) and its strategic partner Creative Power Entertaining Limited Liability Company ("CPE") are pleased to announce that a production cooperation and distribution agreement has been signed by CPE with Toonmax Media Co., Limited ("Toonmax") (a subsidiary of the Shanghai Media Group) and U'Young Media Co., Limited ("U'Young") to invest, promote and distribute the fourth movie of the "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf" series "Incredible: Adventures on the Dragon's Trail" ("Movie 4") in China.
The movie is expected to be released in China in January 2012 to celebrate the arrival of the auspicious Year of the Dragon. In Mainland China, it is becoming a Lunar New Year tradition for parents and children to watch the "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf" movie as part of the celebrations.
This is the 4th agreement to be signed by the parties to produce "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf movies and is a strong sign of the confidence in the growing popularity of the brand. The co-operation between the parties has proven to be successful and will allow each party to contribute in its area of strength. In this case CPE is strongest in the area of animation production, Toonmax in theatrical distribution within Mainland China and U'Young in marketing. Synergies in this partnership has enabled the first three movies to gross RMB80 million, RMB120 million and RMB143 million respectively in terms of box office revenues and become the most successful locally produced animated film in Mainland China. As of the release of Movie 3 "Moon Castle: The Space Adventure" in January 2011, it was also the most successful animation movie released in Mainland China either locally or internationally produced.
In Movie 4, the character Xiao Shen Long, a trademark owned by The Walt Disney Company ("Disney"), will also be part of the cast. In addition, Disney will also be distributing the movie internationally for all distribution channels, including theatre (excluding Mainland China and Hong Kong), internet, television, mobile and other media channels.
The consumer product licensing opportunities for Movie 4 will be managed by Toon Express Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Imagi and Disney.
Mr Soh Szu Wei, CEO and Executive Director of IMAGI, said, "The Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf" movie series has become hugely popular since its launch. For "Movie 3," the box office has exceeded RMB140 million in China and was the first local production with receipts exceeding RMB100 million within 10 days after its nationwide debut. The Group expects this close collaboration with CPE, Toonmax and U'Young to achieve success again. In the new movie, more resources have been devoted to improve the 3D animation to provide greater excitement for the audience while bringing local animation onto the world stage. The Group is working in concert with our partners to realise our commitment to enhance the Chinese animation industry."
In "Movie 4", the goats and wolves ally themselves with Disney's Xiao Shen Long. Xiao Shen Long is a lovable, friendly, warm-hearted kungfu master. To save the day, Xiao Shen Long can transform into different various super dragon personalities, "Wu Xing Long" with super powers sourced from the five traditional Chinese elements (Wu Xing) of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. Xiao Shen Long teaches the goats and wolves martial arts to fight against their nemesis and save the world. The alliance with Xian Shen Ling with the goats and the wolves will bring more power, fun, excitement and story twists, ultimately adding to the appeal of the "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf" movie. The interaction of the main characters, goats and wolves promise to be hilarious, positive and inspirational all at once.
Research in China has generated positive feedback amongst children and their parents, who found the story both entertaining and appealing.
